Capturing stories from The Skill Mill

We’ve been working with the Skill Mill recently to capture stories about what the Skill Mill means to the young people and project partners that are involved in the work of this North East based social enterprise.

The Skill Mill is a Not for Profit Social Enterprise providing employment opportunities for young people 16-18. Following two years of pilot work in the North East of England the Skill Mill was established to provide high quality and cost effective outdoor work with high social impact.

To help them celebrate their first anniversary we’ve been working with some of the young people involved in the Skill Mill’s services as well as staff from the Skill Mill and their advisory board to capture stories about the impact the Skill Mill has had on their lives and what motivates them to be involved.

We’ve heard stories ranging from wanting to avoid following in parents footsteps and ending up in prison, to learning new skills and gaining full time employment. The stories recorded so far reveal the real social and environment benefits that the Skill Millbrings to local communities.

We’re looking forward to seeing their stories shown at their anniversary celebration at the Discovery Museum on 12th February.
