July 2026 Restoring the Rabbit Rock Collection

The team completed the de-weeding of the Rabbit Rock collection at Rabbit Ings Country Park, a Land Trust site located in Royston on the former site of a coal mine. The project covered a large area and took approximately 7–8 working days to complete. The aim of the project was to remove excessive weed growth around the Rabbit Rock collection to improve the appearance of the site and make ongoing maintenance more manageable. Clearing the vegetation has enhanced the visual quality of the area while helping to preserve the feature for visitors to enjoy. One of the main challenges we faced was the dense and well-established weed growth, which meant some areas required repeated treatment and additional labour to achieve the desired standard. Unpredictable weather conditions also caused occasional delays and affected ground conditions, making progress more difficult at times. Despite these challenges, the project was completed successfully. The work resulted in a significant reduction in weed coverage across the priority areas, greatly improving the overall appearance of the site. Access and visibility around the Rabbit Rock collection and surrounding paths have also been improved, creating a safer and more welcoming environment for visitors. The project has made a positive contribution to the long-term management of Rabbit Ings Country Park by making future maintenance more efficient. Throughout the project, the team demonstrated effective teamwork, good environmental practice, and a strong commitment to carrying out the work safely and to a high standard.
