July 2026 A day of carpentry training Young people received a day of carpentry training with no previous knowledge or experience of carpentry. They were firstly taught the difference between CM and MM measurements, then they were shown how to measure and mark wood using a square. Following that, they learnt how to cut wood using a saw and tasked to measure and mark up different sizes and types of wood focusing on technique and straight cuts. As none of them had used a drill before, the team was given a tutorial covering how to switch between forward and reverse, the different speeds and settings, and how to attach and remove drill bits. They were then shown how to drill screws into wood and given the chance to practise it themselves. Finally, they washed and cleaned the work van, learning the importance of keeping all tools and equipment clean and tidy.
