Alan Garner

Alan started out as a youth worker in Lancashire, working alongside Youth Justice. After completing his first degree, he spent 18 months in Massachusetts, USA, as an Outreach and Tracking Officer. On his return to the UK, he worked in Youth Justice in Berkshire, Kirklees and Manchester, before moving back to Lancashire in 2001 to join the Probation Service, where he specialised in Intervention Programmes.

It wasn’t long before Alan was drawn back to the world of Youth Justice, first in Rochdale as Deputy YOT Manager. Since then, he has held a range of positions within Children’s Services and Education, in both the local authority and the voluntary sector. In many respects, these roles have all led Alan to his current position as Regional Manager at The Skill Mill, bringing together his interests and his passion for making a positive and meaningful impact on young people’s lives.

In his spare time, Alan loves the outdoors and music, and can often be found on a hill, in the water, or at a gig or festival.
