Youth Justice Convention

December 31, 2019

Hosted by the YJB, the Youth Justice Convention is the annual event for all those working in the youth justice system, in particular managers, professionals, practitioners and policy makers. This year's title was: 'Youth Justice Convention 2019: Working together, making a difference'.

The Skill Mill attended the event to support job creation as a way of unlocking serious and persistent youth offending. The Skill Mill was launched to provide young people involved in the youth justice system with progression routes into employment. The young people at The Skill Mill acquire knowledge and skills by working alongside local private contractors and partners while undertaking accredited training to achieve a nationally recognised qualification. Follow-on employment opportunities with partner organisations and the wider labour market are sought for each young person taking part.

Here are some of the key topics which were focused on at this years event:

- The journey towards desistence - Identity Shift

- Education: opportunities for every child

- Serious youth violence: a multi-agency approach

- Beyond Criminal Records - “Nothing stops a bullet like a job”

- Successfully Engaging Young People - Making Participation Meaningful
