A recently published news article has stated that time spent near water is the secret of happiness. Experts say that there are three established pathways by which the presence of water is positively related to health, wellbeing and happiness. First, there are the beneficial environmental factors, such as less polluted air and more sunlight. Second, people who are frequently near water tend to be more physically active – not just with water sports, but walking and cycling. And thirdly, water has a psychologically restorative effect. 


The Skill Mill was set up because physically demanding outdoor work suited the youngsters and in turn reduced re-offending. We now know that contact with green and blue spaces is key to the approach with vital physical and mental health benefits.
